Shorin-ryu Shorinkan - 2007/02/17 02:42 Years ago I studied under Sensei Shugoro Nagazato. Does he maintain a dojo in Okinawa still and if so do you have a link for communications to the dojo.

Thank-you Noboru Shimabukuro

I think this site has a link.
I also studied there around and about 1968. Going south into Naha, his Dojo was on the right side of Hwy 58. I believe that learning 20 kata's earned you a black belt, but very little kumite (free fighting) -A friend of mine, MickeyG, made black belt in 8 or 9 months-very intensive training. I think it was $20/month for training under him.

I'd been in a lot of tournaments in the SFBay Area before Okinawa. His Japanese students had never experienced reverse round house kicks. I "scored" well, then got taken down 3 times in a row with judo throws on the hardwood floor-ouch!(was that you, Noboru?)
no more "fancy dancie" for me-haha. Nakazato is the real deal!

I was stationed in the Army at the 2nd Log Command (Machinato service area) 585th MaintCo, a few miles north of Naha on the west coast, from 3/67 to 10/67. To include 3 TDY trips with USARPAC Calibration Teams.
