Language - 2006/10/30 07:49 I am going to live in Okinawa for about 3 years. I am moving mid next year. I can understand and speak a little Honshu-Japanese. How hard is it to communicate with Okinawans with Mainland Japanese. My Japanese is mostly formal/old because that is mostly what is taught in books. Any information would be helpful.
Arigato,
Jason

Re:Language - 2006/10/30 16:10 All Okinawans speak Japanese. Most older Okinawans can also speak some Uchinaguchi (Okinawan hogen dialect).
All TV and media with the exception of some folk songs is in mainland Japanese.
