I am in San Diego CA myself. My wife and I came from Okinawa to CA. If you are in the military, you will want to ask for a sponsor at your unit you are going to. Many car are on sale due to military people only there for a year. You can find a good deal easily.
The dealerships are outstanding also but will be a little more expensive than a older car on base. To me if you are going to Okinawa you are the luckiest person alive. I am wanting to go back and live the rest of my life on that beautiful island.
Good Luck and experience all you can of the island culture don't be a homebody. Get out and see the history of the island.
