Been off line for awhile, so I just read your post. I was also stationed at Naha Air Base from December 1960 -July, 1962. We must have flown in and out together. I was an air traffic controller. Although I was introduced to Naminue, I spent most of my off time in Naha (lived there more than on base). I do have one vivid memory of Yoshiko and I laying on the beach at 3:00 AM when all of a sudden 100s of girls emptied out of Naminue to go swimming. Life was tough, but they were having fun playing in the water. I felt a little privileged to be sharing in their secret after hours ritual. The song, "Stranger on the Shore" was a big hit then, and now always takes me back to okinawa.

I was in 51st A&E, worked in the simulator shop on the line. Yes, I knew about the mid-night swims. When as a student at Nagamine sensei’s dojo we would at times run down to the sea shore right under the Naminoue Shrine and cool off under the big rock it sat on. Spring water came down from holes in the side and was fresh. We all wondered if it was binjo water :) Naminoue was a great place for horny youngsters. So many years have passed though I can not remember but two places I would go drink in, “Club Again” and the “Kokasai Club.” Would eat fried rice and egg plant at the New York restaurant or a Taco restaurant nearby. Too many years gone by. My Okasan was the niece of one of our Judo sensei and worked at a beauty parlor in Naha near the Naha Police Dojo. Can’t remember exactly where that was now.
