Looking for this Statue.. Please help - 2007/10/10 15:27
My Father was in Okinawa in 1962 and had the pleasure of meeting a gentleman who was carving a sculpture that was described as a Peace budah…
As my father describes it, it was over 30’ tall and was being carved in a barn near the town of Futenma he believes… My father took some photos of the statue in the barn as it was being carved and this is the only information he has to search with… I have attached the pictures the full view is the statue in the barn sitting beautifully and peaceful, being lit be a light from above a very moving photo of this work in progress… He is willing to share these photo with you… We only hope you can help… He has the original negative of these photos and would be happy to share them…
My Father went there many times to watch the elderly Okinawa carve the statue, which he called the "Peace Buda". He has always wondered what became of this wonderful statue, and I would like to know all the What? Where? and Name? and of course the name of the Carver and what his name was and what happened to him. My father described the carver as a wonderful man, full of knowledge and a very colorful person. Father says that Okinawa should be proud of such a person who devoted his life to such a project, in which he was so dedicated. My father hopes you can help me by answering his questions and helping his quest, or maybe you can direct me to the place where his answers can be obtained.
Thank you so much for your assistance
