Shikinaen Royal Garden
Shikinaen was the largest second residence for the Ryukyu royal families. The garden and villa were constructed in 1799 to entertain envoys of the Chinese emperor. It is one of Okinawa's 9 World Heritage sites and a designated national place of scenic beauty. The design of the garden encourages visitor to walk around a central pond with two small stone bridges and a hexagonal gazebo, Rokkaku-do. Visitors can walk through the Undun or royal villa. Be sure to remove your shoes beforehand and be careful of the fragile shoji screen.
Cost is 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for children.
Shikinaen is on the Shikina line (No. 5 bus) or about a 600 yen taxi ride from Shuri Castle.
Closed on Wednesdays.
