Konan High School, the Okinawan prefecture champion and representative to the 89th Annual National Baseball Summer Tournament, lost. Their opponent in the second round was Bunsei Fuzoku High School, representing Toguchi Prefecture, about one hour north by train from Tokyo, home of the famous Nikko Shrine.
Konan started strong by scoring first in the first inning. This was an exellent start, being that Konan bats have only been able to put up 7 runs in the four previous wins combined. Things were definitely looking good, because in addition to the run, they had runners on both 2nd and 3rd; giving signs that there offense was not looking very anemic. Bunsei Fuzoku did score in the bottom of the first to tie things up. It was dead even 1-1 with until the bottom of the fifth inning when there 2nd baseman homered with none on. Bunsei Fuzoku scored another run in the 6th and two in the eighth to make in 5-1. In the top of the 9th, Konan tried a last inning effort to pull it out, scoring 1 run in the effort, but came up short.
And there ends the gallant effort for the 89th Annual baseball tournament for the Konan High School team and its supporters. Maybe, just maybe, they will be back again in the 90th tournament; more experienced and a little stronger.
